Garrett Parkes wins 36TH BK Memorial Easter Classic
36th Byron Bay Easter Classic, April 22nd – 24th 2011
Fair to say 2011 went off with a bang, clearly one of our strongest years in the 36 year history of the event. The surfing was explosive, innovative and crowd stopping in all divisions. The sun was shining all three days and as every resident of Byron Bay would know this is something rarely experienced at Easter in this region.
With 250 competitors spread across ten age divisions, there were three full days of surfing with Friday running two banks all day. The final day was a cracker with standout performances from Marcus Aboody, Dexter Muskins, Danny Wills, Nick Colbey, James Wood, Garrett Parkes, Luke Stickley, Soli Bailey, Anthony Mikellides, Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew and James Young. Congratulations to all finalists the level surfing had the crowd on the edge of their seats all day, well done.
A tireless effort once again by all involved in organising assured the contest of an outstanding event with no problems.
Thank you to the Byron Bay Boardrider’s committee, event organisers, judges, commentators and to the food tent for the most outstanding food preparation ever seen on the beach.
Also a huge thank you to all the sponsors for the event, we greatly appreciate your generous support to the event in 2011 and look forward to having you back on board in 2012.
