Easter Classic update

The BK Byron Bay Easter Classic is in its 36th year, a huge feat for any sporting event. Growing in popularity, 2011 will be our biggest year in a very long time. Some divisions are already full, with some of these divisions already being extended to include more competitors. The next problem is the Byron Bay Boardriders squeezing all of this into 3 days. As a spectator you are assured of an action packed weekend.

This is a historic event being the longest running amateur surfing event in Australia. Catering for surfers of all ages the Easter Classic is fun for the whole family. Cash and prizes are spread across all divisions with new surfboards also up for grabs in most divisions.

Due to popularity in 2010, the masters (over 40) and the seniors (over 30) will also have $500 cash for the respective winners of each division. The feature division ‘Open Men’ is always the highest level of competition they will fight it out for the $1500 first place. Open women will also be battling for the $500 first prize. For the kids, the prizes will be outstanding and this is one contest worth adding to the resume. 2011 is set to be a huge year and as it is a non-profit event we would like to thank all the sponsors locally and nationally for their continued strong support of this great event.

Our major Sponsor the Great Northern Hotel will be hosting all the nights for the Easter Classic. The heat draw will be Thursday night from 6pm with ½ price pizzas on offer to all Byron Bay Boardrider members and competitors of the Easter Classic on this night and also all other competition nights (22nd,23rd and 24th). The presentation will kick off at 6pm in the backroom at the Great Northern with all members and competitors being looked after once again with ½ price pizzas and also ½ price tickets to British India following the presentation.

Some outstanding competitors are entered this year with living legend Wayne ‘rabbit’ Bartholomew in the Masters & Legends with his son Jaggar competing in the Fleas, former WCT number 2 & 3 in the world Danny Wills & Mick Campbell, Garrett Parkes just coming of a Pro Junior win in Tahiti, plus past winners of this event Marcus Aboody, Jarrad Sullivan and Yerin Brown.  Plus an endless list of experienced surfers to guarantee a very strong competition.

Spectators are invited to the event over the 3 days with the likely destination being Broken Head.

Also keep an eye out for the heat draw on the website by Thursday, but make sure you roll up Thursday night at the Great Northern to check out the heats and have a good feed!!
